Overview

This course is ideal for those desiring to gain an understanding of the basics of the futures industry. Vocabulary and concepts will be emphasized during this course. Topics covered include: recognizing the components of a futures trade, understanding the basic terminology and concepts of options, reading and understanding price quotes, calculating margins and commissions, identifying spec vs. hedge trading, becoming proficient in basic gain/loss calculations and more!

Futures Back Office Processing: 1 day

Overview

This class reviews the function of, and major departments in, a futures back office. Topics covered include key players in the futures markets, back office departments and responsibilities, and the life of a trade, from execution through settlement.

Stream GMI Fundamentals Training Seminar: 4 days

Overview

Learn the basic building blocks of Stream GMI. Topics covered include an introduction to Stream GMI, Account Processing, Static Data Tables & Product Setup, Data Entry & Position Maintenance, the Inquiry System (RIO), basic Commission and Fee Processing, and the Night Run. Hands-on activities include: setting up a new account, establishing commodities contracts in the Futures Master, entering trades, keying in commission schedules, and setting up commission and fee rates.

Prerequisites

Basic understanding of the futures and options industry or completion of the Basic Derivatives Knowledge Seminar.

Target Audience

Staff that will be using Stream GMI for futures processing or staff that will be supporting these users.

Commissions and Fees Seminar: 1 day

Overview

Learn how to use Stream GMI to establish commissions and fees for both futures and securities trades. Each component in the commission and fees subsystems will be discussed. Topics covered include: review of the commission schedule control, definition, and assignment modules (MMSFD and MMSCH); explanation of rate sets, overrides and rate keys, setup of commission rates in the Commission Rates program (MMRTC) using all rate routines, execution-only commission rates, explanation of the Fee Definition Master File and sequence numbers, and setup of fee rates in the Fees Maintenance program (MMFEE). Hands-on activities include: setting up and assigning commission schedules, as well as setting up commission and fee rates at various levels.

Prerequisites

Experience with the basics of Stream GMI or completion of the Stream GMI Futures Introductory Training Seminar.

Target Audience

Staff that will be maintaining commissions and fees in Stream GMI.

Introduction to Equity Options Processing: 1 day

Overview

This seminar explores the practical usage of the basic programs that process equity options in Stream GMI. Topics covered include: Securities Exchange Table, the Product Pricing Master File, Pricing and the Pricing Master, Trade Entry, the newly enhanced Corporate Action module, the Symbol Equivalency Table, the various exercise and assignment methods supported by Stream GMI, and new reports. Activities to reinforce the material presented will be included during the seminar. Note: This class focuses on the treatment of equity options and therefore does not cover the processing of the underlying stock.

Experience with the basics of Stream GMI or completion of the Stream GMI Fundamentals Training Seminar.

Target Audience

Staff that will be using Stream GMI for equities processing or staff that will be supporting these users.

Interest Processing Seminar: 1 day

Overview

This course provides an introduction to interest processing in Stream GMI. Topics covered include: formula codes, value dating, settlement cycle processing, currency conversion, dummy currency codes, interest master maintenance, interest processing, interest reports, test and live posting, interest statements, and PC files. Participants should be familiar with Stream GMI hierarchy prior to attending this course.

Prerequisites

Experience with the basics of Stream GMI or completion of the Stream GMI Fundamentals Training Seminar.

Target Audience

Staff that will be using Stream GMI for interest processing or staff that will be supporting these users.

Files Seminar - Query Building: 1 day

Overview

Learn to generate user-defined reports using IBM Query. Topics covered include: an overview of the most commonly used files in Stream GMI, how to read these files and find information in them via the Display Physical File Description command (DSPPFM), an introduction to IBM Query, and advanced functions of Query, such as joining files and creating user-defined result fields. Hands-on activities include: reading file layouts, finding specific information in select system files, and using Query to create user-defined reports.

Prerequisites

It is beneficial, but not required, for participants to be familiar with basic AS/400 commands and the basics of Stream GMI prior to attending this course.

Target Audience

Staff that require a basic understanding of how to read data in Stream GMI files and how to use these files to create customized reports via IBM Query. Participants should verify that they are authorized to access IBM Query prior to registering for this seminar.

Research Utilities Seminar: 1 day

Overview

Prerequisites

The Stream GMI Research Utilities Seminar covers many of the tools available for use in researching issues that arise regarding Stream GMI. Specific topics include: basic AS/400 commands, communications and transmissions issues, IBM Query basics, and Stream GMI research. Sample situations to be reviewed include: rebuilding logical files, working with object locks, addressing elevated system capacity, performing file compares, researching out of balances, maintaining user security, and utilizing existing Documentation tools to research issues. Activities to reinforce the material presented will follow each section.

Prerequisites

It is beneficial, but not required, for participants to be familiar with the basics of Stream GMI prior to attending this course.

Target Audience

Staff that require a basic understanding of how to troubleshoot common Stream GMI problems.
